"Halloween Extravaganza" 2010 Theme
Entered by John Hardin, 17, La Quinta High School Student
When we asked about the theme idea and parade, here is what John has to say:
“I came up with the theme “Halloween Extravaganza” because the parade is on Halloween day this year, and extravaganza means a big festival and the Coachella Valley should be about uniting and having a great time. I like how Halloween is the one time of the year where you can just be whatever you want to be, or just be yourself.
I have been attending the parade since I was nearly a baby and have actually been in the parade numerous times, as well as volunteered my time to help make the parade run smoothly on several occasions. I'd have to say that the years when I was able to watch the parade were some of the best because I was able to see everyone that was in the parade and see all the many types of beautiful floats that were built and created by my neighbors.
I am very excited about having my own VIP ride this year as Theme Contest
Winner, and I might even bring a friend along with me to join in on these festivities.” – John Hardin
The Theme Contest Winner not only gets to ride in a V.I.P. spot at the beginning of the parade in a reserved cart and he also receives an official Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade polo shirt but the biggest prize of all will be watching the entire parade, from floats to carts to dance groups, garnished in the Halloween Extravaganza style!
John entered just one theme for the annual contest and the planning committee carefully selected this one from the sixty plus entries which was no easy task! One entry was all took!
The parade committee looks forward to the fitting Halloween themed event:
“This year is gearing up to be a very festive and exciting parade. We are in year 46 of this tradition and it remains the largest parade of this kind. We celebrate our unique golfing community, our residents, neighbors, families and it’s an all around great time! Those very popular parade components will stay, like: The FREE Shaded Senior Seating Area, the FREE Children’s Hands-on Activities, The FREE Fancy Cart Show, The VIP Reserved Seating Area that runs along El Paseo returns as well, since we sold out last year. We can’t wait to see those decorated floats and carts in Halloween style; people and businesses are already eager to get started! ” says Parade Chairman Nicole Boggs.
